Selected work

01

Hands-on user research projects

Podimo

Fan engagement beyond listening

User Researcher (Estelle van Ravestyn) in collaboration with Data scientist

Led the qualitative study, Co-Creation, to generate new thinking with Podimo users rather than evaluate existing features, uncovering the moments, motivations and unmet needs that sit behind how people engage with content. Partnered with a data scientist on a quantitative follow-up, a Community Feature Hierarchy study, and together we built a mixed-methods case that reframed the roadmap around 3 shifts: episode - and host level and listener engagement. That combined evidence directly shaped feature prioritization with cross-functional stakeholders across product, design and data science teams.

Spotify

Queue on TV

User Researcher (Estelle van Ravestyn) in collaboration with Design

Led a 3-day diary study followed by moderated prototype interviews into adding a queue to the Spotify TV app, understanding mvp before several engineering-months of investment. The feature shipped and boosted consumption and retention as key company metrics, with TV MAUs who adopted the queue consuming significantly more content, their average TV usage far exceeding non-adopters by January 2024.

SPOTIFY (SOUNDTRAP)

Mixed method activation study

User Researcher (Estelle van Ravestyn) in collaboration with Data scientist

Led a mixed-methods study after data showed a high number of new desktop users and an even higher number of new mobile users never returned after their first Studio session. Quantitative activation segmentation plus 2 rounds of qualitative remote in-depth interviews drove 2 shipped changes: extended event tracking beyond the initial one-week window to reflect real, sporadic creation behavior, and optimized CTAs, upgrade prompts and onboarding flow to increase desktop and mobile retention.

AI & Research Ops

Podimo

AI skills, toolkits and repositories

Established Research Operations for a lean 2-person User Research team

Built a quant/qual insight repository (NotebookLM) and AI-assisted analysis toolkit (GitLab & Claude Code) with transcript analysers and reporting workflows, speeding up project turnaround by 20%.

Spotify

Democratizing unmoderated usability training for designers

Co-created a company-wide training program and ran the training

Co-created a company-wide training program with 3 fellow researchers, scaling unmoderated usability testing (Research Ops, UserTesting) so designers across Spotify (enabled ~30 designers across 5 teams) could self-serve early insight.

Sideproject

PARTICIPANT PAL

Founder (side project)

Concept, Design & Development by Estelle van Ravestyn

Almost ten years as a user researcher, and in most of those roles I built the research practice from scratch, playbooks and workflows that always ended in tab-switching. That's why I founded Participant Pal, a Research Ops tool that connects your warehouse, calendar, interview tool and incentive system instead of replacing them: selecting, inviting, booking, interviewing and reimbursing in one workspace.
